Iran and its Nuclear Program

Recently there is the issue of Iran is developing nuclear weaponssix major countries: the United States, China, Germany, Britain, France and Russia on Saturday in Istanbul, Turkey, to discuss the Iranian nuclear issue. All parties are of the view that the talks were constructive and useful. The purpose of this talk is to test the seriousness of Iran to negotiate. West has pressed Iran with economic sanctions to halt its nuclear weapons. West also accuses Iran is developing nuclear weapons. Iran denies, saying that the country's nuclear enrichment is for peaceful purposes, namely for energy and health.

Economic sanctions is not to buy Iranian oil is gradually applied, after talks in January last year failed. Iran has felt the impact of economic sanctions from the West and wanted to end it and to prevent Israel and the U.S. military attack. Six major powers also want to limit Iran's nuclear program, monitor and prevent the world from war. Given the failure of talks last year the U.S. has threatened that the Istanbul talks should result in something. If not, there should be negotiations. Apparently, the talks this time is satisfactory. They agreed to talk about the details of its next meeting in Istanbul May 23 in Baghdad.

Iran has been able to enrich uranium to 20 percent. It only took a few steps to get 90 percent to be able to make nuclear weapons. This is the concern of the West and the world. Istanbul talks have been able to convince the West that Iran succeeded in enriching uranium only up to 20 percent. In an interview with Iran's student news agency ISNA, Iran's foreign minister, Ali Akbar Salehi said, if the West wants to build mutual trust, can start with their sanctions against Iran. It is unclear what the purpose is Salehi, the West should lift sanctions before they held talks in Baghdad. But Washington has stated that sanctions would be removed if it has no real action from Iran, and not just to hold the next negotiations.

Compromise requires action on both sides. West should permit Iran to resume nuclear enrichment at low levels, while allowing Iran's nuclear watchdog IAEA to conduct surveillance. It would be an example for other countries including Indonesia in search of alternative energy. It is the right of all countries to develop nuclear for the welfare of the people
